Here’s a cool tool that might help you understand expected goals in soccer. You can click various parts of the map and find out the probability that a goal would be converted from there. It also lets you add in variables like “Was the ball headed? Did it come to the shooter from a cross, or taken after a dribble?” I highly suggest showing it to players to get a better idea of how they could shoot.
